FRESNO, Calif. - For third time this season, a Bulldog football player has been selected national player of the week.
Sophomore Robbie Rouse rushed for 286 on 43 carries, both career highs. It was the second-most by a Bulldog to Dwayne Wright's 295 yards also at La Tech in 2006. Rouse had a 60-yard run early in the third quarter, the longest of his career and had a 51-yard touchdown late in the game. His previous long rush was 46 yards against Boise State on Sept 18, 2009. Rouse also posted his third consecutive 100-yard rushing game Ryan Mathews was the last Bulldog to get 200 yards rushing in a game. He did it last year at San Jose State. The 43 carries set a new Fresno State record, previously owned by former NFL back Michael Pittman, who had 39 vs. Oregon in 1996. His 286 yards were the most by a back over the weekend and the second-highest total of an NCAA back this season. Nebraska's Roy Helu, Jr., had 307 yards against Missouri. Rouse's 43 carries are six more than any other back in the nation this season.
For that he was named the National Running Back of the Week by Chris Carter and Logan Harrell, who won national player of the week awards earlier this season.
Junior receiver Jamel Hamler was an honorable mention selection for national receiver of the week he had the best night of his career with eight receptions for 118 yards and three touchdowns (6, 10, 33 yards) . It was the first time a Bulldog caught three touchdowns in a game since 2007 when Bear Pascoe caught three against Texas A&M. Hamler leads the team and ranks fourth in the WAC with five touchdown receptions.
The national offensive player of the week was Nevada's Colin Kaepernick, who threw five touchdown passes and led a Wolf Pack offense that rolled up 844 yards at Idaho in a 63-17 victory over Idaho. Kaepernick and No. 21 Nevada come to Bulldog Stadium on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs received 11 votes in the USA Today Coaches' Poll this week, good for 32nd place.
"We Are Your Team!" "We Are Your Team!" Fresno State will bring the action back to Bulldog Stadium Saturday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. PT against No. 21 Nevada. Tickets for that game are available by clicking the tickets icon at the top of this page.
