BOISE, IDAHO - Following their first practice in Boise Wednesday morning, players, coaches, staff members and families of coaching staff traveled 25 miles out of the city and into the mountains ending at Bogus Basin to take in the elements that Idaho has to offer, with a snow day of tubing equipped with some of the best aspects of a true winter day.
Many dressed in Bulldog red and cold weather gear in place, the Dogs hit the slopes on blue and green inner tubes for some intense tubing stunts and good ole fashioned fun for the little ones. From the train to the circular chain formations on tubes, Fresno State knew how to make it a classic winter day to remember for all.
"It is just an experience," said tight end freshman Riley Barnes. "We just want to get every bowl experience we can."
With video cameras in hand, many snow goers taped their plunges down the hill, and captured the often intense spins and spirals down to the bottom. Head coach Pat Hill also made his own trip down the hill, with a running start and face first jump onto the tube.
"It was fun," said freshman defensive lineman Tyeler Davison, who along with many others, is taking in his first bowl experience this year. "It was great. We all went down different ways."
But it is almost unanimous that the best tubing formation of the day was the two-person "helicopter," which involves a tandem of two interlocked by legs and sent down the hill with a strong spin and push that sends both into a wild, gyrating drive to the bottom.
"I did the helicopter with Riley" said freshman Cody Whichmann. "It was intense at the beginning and I didn't really expect it, but we got a nice little push off."
The group, which included many coach's children and families, also enjoyed hot chocolate, chili, and other cold weather foods while sharing many laughs in an atmosphere that is rarely experienced in Fresno, making Wednesday an exciting day for all.
