FRESNO, Calif. - With one of the biggest annual home events this week, the Bulldog equestrian team remains ranked among the top programs in the nation. Fresno State is ranked 10th in the latest National Equestrian Coaches Poll which was released Tuesday.
The Dogs are hosting the Fourth Annual Best in the West Tournament this weekend on campus. Admission is free.
Coming off an impressive 17-3 win over No. 9 New Mexico State, their biggest scoring margin for the season, the Georgia Bulldogs held a firm grip on the top spot of the most recent national equestrian coaches' Top 10 poll. Georgia (7-1) has won seven consecutive matches since losing the season opener against TCU.
Auburn remained second in the poll this week, following by two teams from the Big 12 Conference, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. South Carolina rounded out the top five. The second half of the Top 10 poll remained unchanged with Kansas State at No. 6 in the poll, followed by Baylor, TCU, New Mexico State and Fresno State.
The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll at the beginning of the 2008-09 season.
The poll is released bi-monthly when the schools are in season with the next announcement scheduled for March 2, 2010.
