A Pair of Ranked Foes Await `Dogs

FRESNO, Calif. - The 41st-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team takes on a pair of ranked teams in No. 50 UNLV and No. 39 Texas A&M in Las Vegas, Nev., this weekend.
The Bulldogs will first face the host Rebels on Friday at 10 a.m. and will follow that up by facing the Aggies on a neutral court in Las Vegas, Nev., on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Fresno State is led by No. 6 Anastasia Petukhova, who has compiled an 11-3 record this season, including a 3-0 mark in the spring portion of the season.
Petukhova also forms a lethal duo with partner Renata Kucerkova. Last season the pair earned NCAA All-American honors for the second year in a row, by advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Tournament. The pair was named the 2009 ITA National Doubles Team of the Year and was named the preseason No. 1 team in the country. They are currently unranked because the pair was unable to compete together in the fall, due to an injury.
UNLV is 5-2 on the season and the Rebels are currently riding a two-match winning streak, with wins last weekend over UC Riverside and Utah State. UNLV is coming off a Mountain West Championship appearance a year ago and looking to return
The Rebels' singles lineup boasts 45th-ranked Kristina Nedeltcheva and 72nd-ranked Jana Albers.
The Bulldogs are 7-5 all-time against UNLV, including a current three-match winning streak in the series. Fresno State picked up a 6-1 victory in the last meeting between the schools in 2008.
Texas A&M is 1-2 in 2010, with an impressive 6-1 victory over No. 70 LSU.
The Aggies feature two ranked singles players, namely No. 33 Elze Potgieter and No. 69 Nazari Urbina. Together the Aggie duo also forms the No. 45 doubles tandem in the country.
Fresno State is 2-1 against the Aggies in the series, with the Bulldogs coming away with a 5-2 victory in the last meeting in 2008.
The matches this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., begin a seven-match road trip and return to the friendly confines of the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center on March 20, for a doubleheader against Harvard and Pacific.
