FRESNO, Calif. - Coming off one of the biggest wins in the history of the program, the Bulldog equestrian team moved up two spots to No. 8 in the latest national coaches' poll released today.
The Dogs defeated No. 2 Auburn last weekend at the Student Horse Center. The Tigers came into the Fresno State match with an 11-2 overall record had previously defeated No. 1 Georgia before coming west. The loss to Fresno State likely prevented them from moving up to No. 1. Auburn has been ranked either first or second in the nation all season long.
Despite a loss to No. 2 ranked Auburn earlier this month, the Georgia Bulldogs remained the top team in the National Equestrian Coaches Poll.
Oklahoma State and South Carolina remained No. 4 and 5, respectively.
Baylor moved past Kansas State for sixth place and Fresno State, after its win over No. 2 Auburn, jumped two spots to eighth place.
TCU and New Mexico State round out the top 10 poll.
The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll at the beginning of the 2008-09 season.
The poll is released bi-monthly when the schools are in season with the next announcement scheduled for March 30, 2010.
