FRESNO, Calif. - Mackenzie Oakes was close to perfection once again as the `Dogs downed Princeton 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday night at Bulldog Diamond. The `Dogs are 16-9 on the year.
"I think our team did very well," said head coach Margie Wright. "We had some great hits and we were very disciplined up to bat. We are anxious to get on the road and we face some tough teams but hopefully we keep swinging the bat the same way."
Haley Gilleland and Andrea Ortega led off the bottom of the first for the `Dogs with back-to-back singles. After a walk to Michelle Moses to load the bases by Princeton pitcher Jamie Lettire, a single up the middle by Courtney Moore drove in two. Caitlin Stiglich drove in another with her own single up the middle.
Becca Walker's two-out double tallied another run on the board for the `Dogs. The `Dogs got four runs on five hits in the first inning.
Lisamarie Coronado reached on an error and Nicole Angene walked to lead off the third inning. Coronado scored on a single and an error during Gilleland's at bat as the `Dogs went out to a 5-0 lead after three.
Moses took the first pitch of the fourth inning deep to left field for her fifth home run of the year. She now has 17 in her young Bulldog career and is tied for seventh all-time with Angela Cervantez.
In the next at bat, Moore went to deep to right field for her fourth home run of the season.
Coronado and Angene each singled up the middle with one out. A single by Walker to right field drove in pinch runner Kaylan Pollard for an 8-0 lead.
Gilleland singled to drive in two more `Dogs for a 10-0 lead.
The only hit allowed by Oakes was with two outs in the fifth to Megan Weidrick. She improves to 7-3 on the year as she struck out four and walked none.
