FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference named Fresno State's Rosario Sanchez the Verizon Wireless WAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete Tuesday.
Sanchez, a redshirt sophomore from Selma, Calif. (Selma HS), grabbed two first-place finishes at the Bulldog's dual meet against Cal Poly Saturday, winning both the shot put and the discus. Sanchez's shot put mark of 47 feet, 1.25 inches (14.36m) ranks fourth in the nation. The her discus toss of 137 feet, 11.75 inches (42.06 meters) was more than 16 feet beyond the nearest competitor, good for 23rd nationally. Both marks are first in WAC standings.
This is Sanchez's first WAC Athlete of the Week honor and the second for Fresno State in 2010. Roxanne Sellick was honored on Feb. 16 as the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
