`Dogs Continue LMU Series Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team lost the first game of the four-game series against Loyola Marymount, 12-5, Friday night. The Bulldogs are 9-8 and play a doubleheader tomorrow against the Lions.
The `Dogs scored five runs on 13 hits. One of the hits came from Garrett Weber, who launched his first home run of the season over the scoreboard in left field.
Fresno State hit four doubles, two from Jordan Ribera and one a piece from Isacc Vivas and Brennan Gowens. The Bulldogs have hit 30 doubles in 2010.
The `Dogs pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts. Matt Morse and Gene Escat each had three strikeouts apiece. The defense fielded two double plays bringing the season total to 25.
Junior Danny Muno went 3-for-5 against the Lions and recorded two RBIs. Sophomore Trent Garrison also had a hot bat hitting 2-for-3 in the first game.
The Lions got on the board in the first inning taking an early lead, 1-0.
Ribera got the first hit of the night for the Bulldogs with a double to center field. The first baseman now has four doubles on the year.
Loyola Marymount increased their lead, 3-0, with two runs in the top of the second inning. The Lions added another run in the third inning leading, 4-0.
The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the third inning with two runs. Vivas doubled to left field. Muno singled through the left side bringing home Vivas cutting the lead, 4-1.
Muno advanced to second base on a throwing error. He moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on passed ball cutting the lead, 4-2.
LMU increased their lead, 5-2 with an unearned run in the fourth inning.
Morse started on the hill for the Bulldogs. The senior struck out three LMU batters in four and a third innings.
Greg Gonzalez came in the relief in the fifth inning and with the bases loaded got two outs to retire the inning without the Lions scoring. The junior struck out two batters.
Garrison led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single through the right side. The sophomore advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Vivas hit a sacrifice fly to center field moving Garrison to third base. Muno singled to the pitcher allowing Garrison to score and the Bulldogs trail, 5-3.
The Lions rallied for seven runs in the top of the eighth inning extending their lead, 12-3
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Gowens hit a ground rule double over the left field wall. Ribera followed with another ground rule double over the left center wall. Gowens scored on the play as the `Dogs trail, 12-4.
Weber hit a solo home run to left field as the Bulldogs trail, 12-5.
Loyola Marymount took game one, 12-5. The Bulldogs and Lions continue the series with a doubleheader tomorrow.
