FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team host CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday, March 3 for a mid week nonconference match up. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m.
The game marks the eighth meeting between the Bulldogs and Roadrunners. The teams played seven times in 2009 and the Bulldogs lead the series, 4-3. The last time the two teams met was on April 8, 2009 and CSU Bakersfield won, 3-2.
About the Roadrunners
The Roadrunners are off to 5-2 start this season. Last weekend, the `Runners hosted the Bakersfield Tournament and went 1-2. The Roadrunners lost to Cal, 13-0, and St. Mary's, 8-4. CSUB beat Central Michigan, 7-6. The team is hitting .330 with 19 doubles and eight home runs. Brandon Boren is hitting .571 with five doubles and nine RBIs. Right-handed pitcher Mickey Jannis has a 4.38 ERA with 11 strikeouts and a 1-0 record.
Ribera on Fire
Jordan Ribera is hitting .429 with six home runs in seven games. The first baseman hit three more home runs against Washington. Ribera opened the 2010 season with a bang. Opening night he hit a walk-off home run followed by two more long balls in the next game. The first baseman tied the school record for consecutive home runs with three in row. Ribera finished the 2009 campaign with two game-winning home runs against New Mexico State and earned the WAC Tournament MVP honor.
Going... Going... GONE!
As a team, Fresno State has hit 12 home runs in seven games, which is the second most in the WAC behind New Mexico State, who has hit 16. Jordan Ribera is leading the way with six home runs. Trent Garrison added two home runs, while Kenny Wise, Danny Muno, Bobby Coyle and Dusty Robinson have all hit one.
Streaks Continue
The Bulldogs are hitting well in 2010, especially Jordan Ribera and Brennan Gowens. Each have a seven game hitting streak heading into the game against CSU Bakersfield. Garrett Weber has a five game hitting streak heading into Wednesday's game.
`Dogs Bats Heating Up
As a team the `Dogs are hitting .327 with 15 doubles, a triple, 12 home runs and 47 RBIs. Junior Jordan Ribera is leading the way with six home runs and 10 RBIs. Ribera and Bobby Coyle lead the team in hits with 12. Kenny Wise is sporting the highest batting average at .500. Brennan Gowens has the most doubles on the team hitting four in seven games.
