`Dogs Continue Oregon Series Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman Kaohu Gaspar sparked a late inning rally for the Fresno State baseball team with his first career home run as a Bulldog, but Oregon came away with the win, 7-2. The `Dogs are 5-3 this season and continue the four-game series against the Ducks tomorrow.
The Bulldogs scattered nine hits against Oregon. Preseason All-American Dusty Robinson went 2-for-3 with a single in the second and sixth innings.
Senior Sean Bonesteele had a strong relief outing on the hill for the `Dogs. He threw five innings and tied his career-high with three strikeouts. The last time he struck out three batters was March 22, 2009 against Loyola Marymount.
Catcher Trent Garrison picked off the runner at first base to retire the first inning.
Oregon jumped ahead scoring five runs in the second inning taking an early lead, 5-0.
Cody Kendall made his first Friday night start in the Bulldog uniform. The right-hander threw four innings striking out three Oregon batters.
Fresno State recorded its second pick off of the night tagging a runner out in a run down situation.
In the fourth inning, the Ducks added a run increasing their lead, 6-0.
Right fielder Brennan Gowens extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single to right field in the fourth inning.
The Bulldogs turned a double play to end the sixth inning. Fresno State has turned 11 double plays this season.
Bonesteele took over on the mound in the fifth inning. In the seventh inning, the right-hander sat the batters down in order striking out two of the three.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Ducks scored one run extending their lead, 7-0.
Junior Garrett Weber kept his hitting streak in tact with a base hit to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning. The third baseman has gotten a hit in the last six games.
Freshman Austin Wynns came off the bench in the ninth inning and tagged a runner out at home keeping the Ducks from scoring.
Gaspar led off the ninth inning with a solo home run over the left field wall as the `Dogs trail, 7-1.
Pinch hitter Trent Soares followed with a triple off the center field wall. Freshman Scott David grounded out to the short stop allowing Soares to score and the Bulldogs trail, 7-2.
Oregon won the first game of the series, 7-2.
The Bulldogs and Ducks continue the series tomorrow with a double header starting at 2:05 p.m.
