`Dogs Rally Past Patriots, 14-7

FRESNO, Calif. - Friday night's game saw numerous lead changes before the Fresno State baseball team pulled ahead and beat Dallas Baptist 14-7. The offense erupted for seven runs on four hits in the final two innings of the game. The `Dogs improve to 25-19 on the season.
Junior Garrett Weber drove in the tying run in the sixth inning and catcher Trent Garrison's three-run double started the offensive surge two innings later. Dusty Robinson and Jordan Ribera went 2-for-4 on the night while Weber went 2-for-3.
Steve Detwiler recorded a team-high four RBIs Friday night.
The pitching duo of Greg Gonzalez and Matt Morse were stellar on the mound striking out a combined 12 Patriot batters.
Dallas Baptist put a run on the scoreboard in the first inning taking an early 1-0 lead.
Junior Danny Muno led off the first inning with a walk. Robinson singled up the middle moving Muno to second base. Designated hitter Bobby Coyle hit another single up the middle bringing a run home tying the game, 1-1.
Brennan Gowens hit an RBI single to center field giving the Bulldogs the lead, 2-1.
Friday night starter, Gonzalez struck out the side in the top of the second inning. The first batter was caught looking and the final two went down swinging. Gonzalez struck out seven batters in four innings in his fourth start of the year.
The Patriots took a 3-2 lead in the third inning with a two-run home run.
In the third inning, Coyle walked. Weber hit a sacrifice bunt moving Coyle to second base. Gowens got on base after getting walked. Detwiler hit a three-run home run just fair of the left field foul pole given the Dogs the lead, 5-3.
DBU scored three runs in the fourth inning taking the lead, 6-5.
Morse took over on the mound in the fifth inning. He got out of a bases loaded jam by striking out back-to-back patriot batters and getting the final batter to fly out to center field.
Ribera led off the bottom of the fifth inning a single to right field. Weber hit an RBI double into the gap in right center field tying the game, 6-6.
Detwiler grounded out at first base allowing the go ahead run to score giving the `Dogs lead, 7-6.
Morse saw three batters in the sixth inning and retired them in order. He struck out five batters in five innings of relief and earned his third win of the year.
In the seventh inning, Coyle walked. Ribera singled up the middle advancing Coyle to second base. Weber loaded the bases with a single through the left side of the diamond. Pinch hitter Trent Garrison drove in three runs with a double into the gap in left center field increasing the Bulldogs lead, 10-6.
A fielding error by Dallas Baptist allowed Muno to score in the eighth inning increasing the `Dogs lead, 11-6.
The eighth inning continued when Gowens reached on a fielder's choice bringing Coyle home and extending the Bulldogs lead, 12-6.
Fresno State continued the rally with Ribera scoring on a wild pitch.
Pinch hitter Daniel Moultrie kept the inning alive with an RBI single up the middle.
The Bulldogs rallied for a total of four runs in the eighth inning taking their biggest lead of the game, 14-6.
The Patriots scored one run in the top of the ninth inning.
The `Dogs took the second game of the series 14-7 evening the series out one game each. The Bulldogs conclude the series against Dallas Baptist Saturday, May 1 at 6:05 p.m.
