FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team has been impressive in the classroom under coach Adrian Wiggins. The team finished with a fall semester grade point average of 3.1, resulting in the first time a Wiggins coached team has finished with a GPA of above a 3.0 in back-to-back semesters.
In the spring of 2009, the team had a 3.2 GPA.
The success the team has had in the classroom has resulted in six Bulldogs earning Academic All-WAC honors. Emma Andrews, Ali Drennan, LaShay Fears, Brittny Jones, Hayley Munro and Jaleesa Ross earned the accolades and having six people on the list ties for the most in the WAC for women's basketball. Jones, and Fears are set to graduate with their degrees this spring.
Utah State was the only other school who had six student-athletes receive the honor.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
The six Academic All-WAC selections is the most since six Bulldogs earned the honor in 2005-06 and it is the most named to the team for Fresno State since it joined the WAC. The 1994-95 and the 2004-05 teams also boasted six Academic All-WAC honorees.
