Ribera Hits Home Run No. 25

FRESNO, Calif. - The 27th ranked Fresno State baseball team scored a run late in the eighth inning, but lost 12-2 to Sacramento State. The `Dogs are 32-23 this season and 13-8 in Western Athletic Conference play.
First baseman Jordan Ribera hit a solo home run early in the game, which is 25th of the season. Coming into the weekend he was second in the nation and the leader had 25 home runs.
The Bulldogs need to win two of their last three games to clinch the WAC regular season title.
Brennan Gowens, Danny Muno and Ribera each had two hits in the first game of the four-game series. The Bulldogs tallied eight hits.
Sacramento State took a 3-0 lead after hitting a two-run home run and an RBI single in the second inning.
In the second inning, Ribera put the `Dogs on the board with a solo home run to center field.
The Hornets added another run in the fourth inning increasing their lead, 4-1.
The Bulldog defense made some great plays in the bottom of the fourth inning. Senior Isacc Vivas threw a runner out at first base after falling to a sitting position to stop the ball. A runner later the Bulldogs caught a runner attempting to steal base to retire the side.
A pair of home runs extended the Hornets lead to 9-1. Sacramento State scored two more runs taking an 11-1 lead into the eighth inning.
Garrett Weber hit a double to the gap in left center field in the eighth inning allowing a Bulldog to cross home plate and the `Dogs trail, 11-2.
Sacramento State went on to win the first game of the series, 12-2.
