FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior Anastasia Petukhova made her third NCAA Singles Tournament appearance of her career with an opening round match against No. 50 Micaela Hein of Arizona State, with the Sun Devil coming away with a 7-5, 6-0 victory on Wednesday in Athens, Ga.
Petukhova came out strong in the first set, but Hein narrowly edged her 7-5. In the next set, Hein closed out the match with a 6-0 victory.
The match concluded Petukhova's senior year and her illustrious college career.
"Anastasia had a tremendous career at Fresno State and we are grateful that she came to us," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "She had a great fall that helped her being an All-American in singles. Her achievements on and off the court are numerous. I am certain she will accomplish great things in life and we wish her nothing but the best."
Petukhova ended her career No. 3 on the Fresno State career wins list with 108 career victories. She was First Team All-WAC in singles three times and three times in doubles. She comprised one half of the 2009 ITA National Doubles Team of the Year with teammate Renata Kucerkova.
