`Dogs Upset No. 25 NMSU

LAS CRUCES, NM - The Fresno State baseball team put an end to No. 25 New Mexico State's 10-game win streak after handing them their third conference loss. The Bulldogs beat the Aggies 21-11 on Friday night. The `Dogs have an overall record of 27-20 and are 8-5 in the Western Athletic Conference. NMSU is ahead of the Bulldogs in the WAC standings by three and half games.
Junior Jordan Ribera sent one out of the park, his 23rd home run of the season, which is the most in the nation. Ribera went 2-for-5 extending his hitting streak to 11-straight games. His longest hitting streak of the year is 13 games. Ribera is nine home runs shy of tying the single season home run record set by Lance Shebult.
Fresno State scored 21 runs against the Aggies, which is the most the `Dogs have recorded in a single game this season. Seven Bulldogs recorded multiple hits against New Mexico State Friday night.
Junior Bobby Coyle finished the night 3-for4 at the plate with a double, a home run and six RBIs. Outfielder Dusty Robinson tied his career-high seven plate appearances. The sophomore connected for four hits and five RBIs.
Josh Poytress started on the mound and struck out three in a three and a third outing. The sophomore held the Aggies scoreless in the second and third innings.
The Bulldogs offense came out swinging at Presley Askew Field hitting four singles and a double bringing in four runs in the first inning. Second baseman Danny Muno led off with a stand up double. An RBI single through the right side from Coyle gave the Bulldogs the lead, 1-0.
A sacrifice fly from Brennan Gowens drove in the second run of the game. Designated hitter Kenny Wise singled through the right side allowing Ribera to score from second base increasing the Bulldogs lead, 3-0.
Catcher Trent Garrison recorded an RBI single up the middle as the `Dogs headed to the bottom of the first inning with a 4-0 lead.
The Aggies scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning cutting Fresno State's lead to 4-2.
Robinson hit a double down the left field line that drove in two runs giving the Bulldogs a four run lead, 6-2.
Coyle hit a three-run home run off Aggie pitcher Cory Hill extending the Bulldogs lead, 9-2. Coyle's home run is the first given up by Hill this season.
In the fourth inning, Weber led off with a double to left field. Garrison brought Weber home with a single to right field and Fresno State continued to lead, 10-2.
With the bases loaded, Robinson hit a double off the left field wall allowing two runs to score increasing the Bulldogs the lead, 12-2.
A wild pitch allowed another run to score for the Bulldogs. Ribera hit his 23rd home run over the left field wall adding two more runs to the scoreboard as the `Dogs lead climbs to 15-2.
New Mexico State scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bulldogs stopped the Aggies bases loaded rally with a double play.
The Aggies added three runs in the fifth inning as the Bulldogs lead, 15-8.
In the sixth inning, Coyle cleared the bases and recorded two more RBIs with a double to the gap in right field and the `Dogs lead, 17-8.
Ribera put the Bulldogs up by 10 runs for the second time in the game with a sacrifice fly that allowed Coyle to score.
NMSU scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the `Dogs lead, 18-9.
Left-hander Tom Harlan threw two innings of relief and struck out three Aggie batters.
The Aggies recorded two runs in the seventh inning cutting the `Dogs lead, 18-11.
A solo home run from Robinson extended the `Dogs lead, 19-11. The sophomore has 25 home runs in a Fresno State uniform.
In the ninth inning, Vivas drove in a run with a double to left field increasing the Bulldogs lead, 20-11.
Pinch hitter Austin Wynns hit an RBI single through the right side giving Fresno State a 10-run lead for the third time of the night.
Sean Bonesteele earned his second win of the year after the Bulldogs won the first game, 21-11.
