Moses Set Two Pitching Records

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team ended the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Diamond by splitting a doubleheader and taking the series vs. Louisiana Tech. The `Dogs took game one 4-0 and fell 3-1 in game two.
Fresno State ends the regular with a 36-17 record overall and at 15-6 in the WAC. The `Dogs clinched the No. 2 seed and first round bye in next week's WAC Tournament in Las Cruces, N.M. Louisiana Tech is 26-19 overall and a 11-10 in WAC play and will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament.
"I feel good about our team heading into Las Cruces," said head coach Margie Wright. "We weren't stellar this weekend offensively but a few people came through and didn't a great job. I know everyone wants to win and will put their best foot forward."
Game One
Sophomore pitcher Michelle Moses set two school pitching records in game one. She struck out the first 13 batters of the game setting the record for consecutive strikeouts which was previously nine set by Kristin Hunter (1999) and Robin Mackin (2006). Moses' perfect game was broken up with a one-out single in the fifth by Meghan Knowles. It was just one of two hits in the game for LA Tech.
Moses had 18 strikeouts in the game which is a new school record for total strikeouts in a seven inning game. The previous was 17 set by Mackin in vs. Kansas in 2006.
"It was a great to be out there and just get the job done," Moses said. "I felt like all of my pitches were moving pretty well today."
Entering the 2010 season there were only 23 other performances of 18 strikeouts or more in NCAA history.
Courtney Moore hit her sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right center after a single by Moses to put the `Dogs up 2-0 in the fourth.
Senior Brooke Phipps led off the fifth with a triple to left center and scored in a single to shallow center by Diane Runge.
The `Dogs got their fourth run in the sixth after a double by Moore. Kaylan Pollard entered to pinch run and scored on a single to center by Stiglich.
Fresno State had eight hits in the game, led by Moore with two off of the LA Tech pitcher Michelle Jones. Jones falls to 5-4 on the year.
Moses improves to 9-1 with the complete game shutout.
Fresno State won the series with the game one victory.
Game Two
Louisiana Tech jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the final game of the series after a single by Kendra Harmon and a double by Kylie Bassett. They both scored on a single to left field by Knowles.
LA Tech went up 3-0 in the sixth with a fielder's choice by Knowles and her pinch runner scored on a single by Heather Doiron.
The `Dogs got on the board in the sixth with a single to center by Moore after a single by Haley Gilleland.
Stiglich led the `Dogs with two hits in the game.
Mackenzie Oakes got the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts. She falls to 11-7.
Janna Frandrup got the win for the Lady Techsters, improving to 3-1 on the season. She allowed one run on seven hits with two strikeouts.
