Two Freshmen Named Academic All-WAC

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference announced the 2009-10 academic all-WAC freshmen/transfer teams for all sports and Fresno State soccer had two freshmen honored. Both Bianca Lopez and Vanessa Gonzalez earned Academic All-WAC honors.
With the addition of the two freshmen, the Bulldog soccer team had a total of 12 student-athletes recognized for the academic achievements for 2009-10.
"With the time demands put on our student-athletes these awards are a testament to the character of these young ladies off the field," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "I am very proud of our team academic achievements and especially so for these individuals. They deserve this recognition for their excellence in the classroom."
A total of 292 spring student-athletes were named to the list, while 351 freshmen and transfers were added for a total of 643 student-athletes. Fresno State placed 75 student-athletes on the academic all-WAC honor roll. For the 2009-10 academic year, Fresno State had 142 student-athletes earn academic All-WAC honors.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
