HOUSTON, Texas -  Fresno State's relentless pressure in the offensive zone would be the difference maker on the night as the Bulldogs earned their second win of the season on Thursday after defeating Texas Southern by a final of 3-0 at Alexander Durley Stadium.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State struck first just nine minutes into the match. After a throw-in from the right side, the ball bounced right to the leg of Alexis Campbell in front of the net as the senior netted the opening goal of the night. It was Campbell's second goal of the season. The Tigers threatened in the closing minutes of the first half, but strong defense and goalkeeping helped the Bulldogs head into halftime with a one goal advantage.
Fresno State continued their relentless attack on offense, leaving the Tigers pinned in their defensive zone for the better part of the second half. As they looked to expand the lead, Fresno State had multiple scoring chances including a shot by Addison Sanchez that sailed wide, followed by a strike from Alexis Campbell from the top of the box that was saved by the Tiger goaltender.
The Bulldogs broke through with the second goal of the contest after Aniston Renovato sent a pass to Abigail Herren, who made a quick cut past a Tiger defender before sneaking a shot past the goalie to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute. Just over a minute later, the Bulldogs found the back of the net again when Ciara Wilson scored off a centering pass from Campbell to make it three unanswered goals for Fresno State.
Texas Southern looked to gain their footing in the offensive zone, but the ability of Fresno State to maintain possession and sustain constant pressure proved to be the difference on the night, as the Bulldogs would find the win column for the second time this season.Â
