FRESNO, Calif. - Dr. Becky Malmo, who for the last six seasons directed Fresno State's equestrian program, has resigned her position. Malmo, who recently received her doctorate degree in education will be taking a position with the Fresno County Office of Education.
Fresno State announced today that assistant coaches Stephanie Reeves and Julia Scrivani will serve as interim co-coaches for the 2010-11 season. Reeves and Scrivani are both Fresno State graduates and former Bulldog equestrian riders. Reeves works with the Western squad and Scrivani the English team.
"We are grateful to Dr. Malmo for her years of service and dedication to the Fresno State equestrian program," said Associate Athletics Director John Kriebs, who supervises the sport. "She has worked hard to take the program to a higher level and we have a solid foundation of a perennial Top 10-ranked program. We wish here the best of luck in her position."
Reeves joined the Fresno State Equestrian Team coaching staff in the summer of 2005 as the assistant coach for Western competition.
In her role with the program, she has gained national acclaim. Reeves is a member of national Varsity Equestrian Selection Committee and the Secretary for the Competition Committee. Reeves, a 2003 graduate of Fresno State, with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, was the graduate assistant for the equestrian team from 2004 - 2005 while working on her Master's Degree in Sport Psychology. She received her Master's degree in May 2005.
Reeves was a competitive member of the equestrian team from 1998 - 2003, showing in both English and Western events. In addition, she competed on the horse judging team for two years and earned a fifth place finish in Western Horsemanship at the 2002 IHSA National Championships.
As an undergraduate, Reeves was a team captain for three years and received the Equestrian Team's Award of Excellence for two consecutive years. She was also the Student Horse Center barn manager for three years.
Reeves was selected to present her Graduate Project at the 2005 AASP (Association for Applied Sport Psychology) Conference in Vancouver, B.C.
Reeves continues to train and show her own horses and is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Reining Horse Association. Scrivani is a former Bulldog rider who completed her second as an assistant coach. Julia spent the 2006-07 working a graduate assistant coach prior to joining the staff on a full-time basis. Scrivani competed in English and was the reserve champion in Novice Equitation Over Fences at the 2003 Stanford IHSA English show.
