2010-11 Women's Tennis Schedule Announced

FRESNO, Calif. - Not wasting any time to start the fall season, the team swings right into playing at the Berkeley Nike Invitational, (Sept. 24-26), followed by numerous tournaments in Los Angeles, including the ITA All-American PQ (Oct. 2-3), ITA All-American Qualifying (Oct. 5-6), and ITA All-American Main Draw (Oct. 7-10).
While some of the girls compete in Los Angeles the rest of the team heads to Moraga, Calif. for the St. Mary's College Invitational (Oct. 8-10).
To continue their busy season the `Dogs head up to Palo Alto, Calif. to compete in the Northwest Regional Championship on Oct. 22.
Starting off in November half the team travels to New Haven, Conn for the National Indoor Championships and the rest competes in the ASI Invitational.
After traveling for over a month the `Dogs head home for the annual Bulldog Classic, held at Spalding G. Wathen Stadium where Pacific, No. 36 St. Mary's, and Nevada will showcase. All these teams will make a second appearance for a dual match in the spring season.
The Bulldogs return a team of one junior, five sophomores, and two freshmen. Thiboodeau believes last year was a growing year for the women and they'll be ready for the upcoming year.
"We do have a young team, and last year we had many obstacles to overcome," said Thibodeau, "but we have lots of energy and lots of talent and with a tough schedule ahead of us, it's going to be a great season."
To start off spring season the `Dogs head back up to Berkley, Calif. for the California Winter Invitational where they'll be matched up with some of the toughest tennis programs, including USC, UCLA, ASU, Long Beach, and Arizona.
Fresno State's first five dual matches will be held at Wathen Tennis Center. Three of the teams visiting appeared in the NCAA Championship, St. Mary's and Sacramento State and Arizona advanced to the second round.
On the road the `Dogs make a road trip to Texas starting at No. 37 Texas A&M (Feb. 24), then No. 4 Baylor (Feb. 26) who made it to the quarterfinals in the NCAA tournament and the trip ends at No. 27 SMU (Feb. 27), who made it to the second round in the NCAA Championship.
After long travels, the `Dogs head back home to battle BYU (Mar. 3), No. 30 UNLV (Mar. 4), and No. 54 Florida International (Mar. 6).
Back on the road Fresno State takes a tour of the high-ranking Pacific-10 teams including No. 6 UCLA (Mar. 9) who proceeded to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament and No. 20 USC (Mar. 10) who made it to the second round of NCAA Championship. Up north they'll challenge the defending NCAA champion Stanford (Apr. 8) and No. 12 California.
Other key non-conference matches include No. 24 Illinois (Mar. 25), No. 57 San Diego (Mar. 26) and No. 43 Pepperdine (Apr. 2).
Conference matches include Louisiana Tech (Mar. 12), No. 40 Utah State (Mar. 31), Idaho and San Jose State (Apr. 19).
