FRESNO, Calif. - The anticipation is building for Fresno State's upcoming 2010 football season and the Bulldogs shined for television cameras, beat reporters and radio dials on the Friday's annual Media Day at Bulldog Stadium.
"We have a lot of young men returning and we have a great staff," head coach Pat Hill said at his afternoon press conference. "The key for our success is the improvement of our defense and the developing our receivers. We have to get guys in the right spots. It's great to be back on the field."
The festivities of the day started at 5 a.m. for the beginning of the Bulldogs' morning show blitz with six radio stations and four televisions, who each broadcast live from the field. TimeOut, Victor E. Bulldog, the Fresno State cheer squad and dance team also joined the fun with the student-athletes for a variety of interviews.
After split practices for newcomers and veteran players, the team broke for lunch and returned in the afternoon to take their individual official photos while Hill answered questions at the press conference.
Some of the team's stars filmed special segments that will be shown on the large video board during this fall's seven home games, the most for Fresno State since 1994. There were some classic moments when the personalities of your favorite Bulldogs took center stage. Previews will be shown leading up to the Sept. 4 home opener against two-time defending Big East champion Cincinnati on Fresno State's Facebook Page and the Bulldog Blog at www.gobulldogs.com/blog.
Five-time national champion and Big Ten Conference member Illinois comes to Bulldog Stadium on Dec. 3 to close the regular season. Fresno State surged past the Fighting Illini 53-52 last season in Champaign, Ill., when offensive lineman Devan Cunningham pulled down a deflected pass to convert a two-point conversion in exhilarating fashion.
WAC rivals Nevada, Hawai'i, Idaho and New Mexico State also visit Fresno along with Cal Poly. The Bulldogs have engaged in some entertaining games with Hawai'i and Nevada over the years. Fresno State leads the overall series against Hawai'i 21-20-1 and with Nevada 24-15-1.
