Olekaibe Scoring Streak Getting Noticed

FRESNO, Calif. - Even as teams game plan to stop him, Bulldogs' guard Kevin Olekaibe is a scoring machine at an average clip of 21.9 points per game to earn one of five spots on the CollegeHoops.net All-Western Athletic Conference November team.
While Olekaibe's scoring efforts has him ranked third nationally among sophomore scorers in the NCAA, tied for 11th among all scorers and first in the WAC (and would also be first in the MW), he is also averaging 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game through the first seven contests this year.
"It's all about the team, they have put me in position to score, but we also take pride in our defense," Olekaibe said. "Everyone is coming together and we all have the same goal - that's to get better every day and win games."
The double-digit scoring streak is now at nine straight as Olekaibe has also topped the 20-point mark in four of the past five contests. In every game this year, he has reached at least 18 points.
"Kevin knows we need to him score, but I've been really impressed with his defense and how our team is making progress," head coach Rodney Terry said.
The other All-WAC November honorees by CollegeHoops.net included: Christian Kabongo (NMSU), Zane Johnson (Hawai'i), Wendell McKines (NMSU) and Kyle Barone (Idaho).
Fresno State (3-4) hosts Utah (1-5) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a rare Saturday afternoon game at the Save Mart Center.
"We have to continue to play hard and compete every night," Terry added. "This is a great opportunity for our program to host Utah and we look forward to the challenge."
