No. 21 Bulldogs Knock Off Aggies

DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 21 Fresno State baseball team earned its eighth win of the season after defeating UC Davis 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs (8-1) out hit the Aggies 5-4.
The Bulldogs offense was charged by three doubles in the second inning. Junior Dusty Robinson blasted his third double of the weekend. Freshman Aaron Judge added a double and has hit three this series. Preseason All-WAC selection Brennan Gowens drove in a run with his double. Fresno State has hit nine doubles against the Aggies in two games.
UC Davis scored one run on a home run to right field taking the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Robinson led off the second inning with a double down the left field line. Gowens hit a double to the gap in right center field bringing Robinson home. The Dogs added another run taking a 2-1 lead after Judge hit a double to right field.
Sophomore catcher Austin Wynns tagged an Aggies runner out at home after the Bulldogs defending a bunt play perfectly. Wynns also caught a runner attempting to steal second base. He has caught two runners attempting to steal this season.
Greg Gonzalez made his third start of the year on the mound against the Aggies. He threw a season-high eight innings striking out two batters. The only run he allowed was a solo home run. He has allowed only three earned runs this season and has an ERA of 1.31. Gonzalez is 2-0 on the mound in 2011.
In the top of the fifth inning, Danny Muno hit a triple to right center field. The next at-bat designated hitter Chris Mallory hit an RBI single up the middle increasing the Dogs lead 3-1 over the Aggies.
The Dogs fielded their fourth double play of the weekend to end the eighth inning. Fresno State has turned a total of 11 double plays this season.
Junior Charlie Robertson came out of the bullpen in the ninth inning. He earned his fourth save of the year.Robertson has not allowed a run in six innings pitched.
The Dogs won the second game of the series 3-1. The Bulldogs finish the three-game series against the Aggies tomorrow at 1 p.m.
"We Are Your Team!" The Bulldogs conclude the series against UC Davis on Sunday, March 6 at 1:00 p.m. The Dogs return home to host CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday, March 8 at 6:05 p.m.
