No. 2 Seed Dogs Draw La Tech 1st Round

FRESNO, Calif. - Last season's Western Athletic Conference runners-up, No. 72 Fresno State (8-13, 5-0 WAC), opens the first round of the 2011 WAC Women's Tennis Tournament against the No. 7 seed Louisiana Tech (11-8, 0-5 WAC) on Thursday April 28 at noon in Boise, Idaho. The last time these two teams meet up was only a few weeks ago when the Dogs swept the Lady Techsters, 7-0.

Fresno State went 8-13 in the 2011 spring season, which included an undefeated 5-0 record against WAC foes. The mark earned the Bulldogs the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament.
The Dogs have become WAC Champions in eight of its past nine seasons and look to advance that record this coming weekend.
Last season, the No. 3 seeded Dogs advanced to the final round after defeating New Mexico State, 4-0, No. 2 seed Nevada, 4-1 and then shortly fell to No. 1 seed Boise State, 4-3.
Freshman, Marianne Jodoin has shined all season as the Bulldogs recent addition. Currently nationally ranked No. 55, Jodoin has managed to stay on ITA's singles rankings all spring season. Jodoin is one of two Bulldogs undefeated in WAC singles play. On court one, Jodoin went 15-5 on the season and never played below.
Sophomore, Bianca Modoc is the second Bulldog with an undefeated WAC record in singles, 5-0.
Doubles team Laura Pola and Jodoin have become a successful duo on court one for the Dogs, going 4-0 in conference play. Olga Kirpicheva and Melissa McQueen are right up there on court two, achieving a solid 4-0 doubles record in WAC competition.
Louisiana Tech comes into the contest with an 11-8 record overall. The Lady Techsters are the No. 7 seed after going 0-5 in WAC play.
The winner of the match will advance to the WAC semifinals to face the winner of the No. 3 seed Nevada and No. 6 seed Hawai'i on Friday, April 29 at noon.
The WAC Championship match will be on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Appleton Tennis Center or the Julia Davis Park in Boise, Idaho and the winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
