Strong Showing At Scrimmage

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs competed in a Red vs. Blue inter-squad scrimmage Saturday and showed some great strength in the ring on both the English and Western saddle.
"Today's competition set the tone for this upcoming season," co-head coach Julia Scrivani said. "The team showed their strength and cohesion from all the hard work put into the first few weeks of practice. I'm excited to travel and see similar results."
The morning started off with the Equitation on the Flat event where Kimberly Hewson Budnik rode for an event-high score of 76 earning a point for the Blue team. Nicole Roworth and Macy Wilson each scored a 69 and Lisa Beach with a 66 earning three more points for the Blue team. Tara Polkalba, Amanda Postel and Hillary West each scored a point for the Red team.
The action continued with the Horsemanship and Equitation over Fences events that occurred simultaneously in the two side-by-side rings.
Hewson Budnik picked up another event-high score in Equitation over Fences with an 82 earning a point for the Blue team along with Nicole Roworth and Chelsie Stone. Belle Calkin and Hillary West each scored a point for the Red team earning a total of two points for the Red team that fell to the Blue team who had three points.
In Horsemanship sophomore Lauren Crivelli received MVP honors with her high score of 74.5 and earned a point for the Red team. Allie Warkentin scored the other point for the Red team with a score of 72.5. The Blue team defeated the Red team with three points earned by Sammie Jo Stone, Kirsten McKillop, and Christa Beezley.
The Red vs. Blue scrimmage was wrapped up with the Reining event where both teams tied scoring two points a piece. Amanda Lawrence and Lauren Crivelli each received a point for the Red team and Sonya Koch and Sydney Coletti for the Blue team. Colletti also earned MVP honors for the event with a score of 67.
The scrimmage was a great start to the 2011-12 season and the team members had some very impressive rides.
"Today was a great success!" co-head coach Stephanie Reeves said. "The talent we saw today was exciting and fills me with great promise for the 2011-2012 season."
The 'Dogs next event will be a trip to the east coast where they will ride against South Carolina, Delaware State and Texas A&M on Sept. 23 and 24.
