First Road Trip For The Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. - First Road Trip For the Bulldogs The Fresno State equestrian team is ready for its first road trip of the 2011 season. The 'Dogs will travel to the East Coast to compete against South Carolina on Friday, Sept. 23 and Delaware State and Texas A&M on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Bulldogs opened their season with a Red v. Blue intersquad scrimmage on Sept. 10 and had some excellent scores earned by all of the student-athletes.
The Fall Derby Party The Fresno State equestrain team is hosting its annual fundraiser The Fall Derby Party at the Clovis Rodeo grounds on Saturday, October 29th. There will be live and silent auctions, music and dancing, great food and drinks. All of the proceeds benefit the Fresno State equestrian team. Bulldogs Name 2011-12 Captains The Fresno State equestrian team announced its 2011-12 captains at their end of the year banquet in spring. The team has four brand new captains representing each of the events that the team competes in. Leading the team for this season will be Holly Elsbernd, Lauren Carr, Shawna McClurg, and Sammie Jo Stone. Lauren Carr will be a junior representing the team in Equitation on the Flat. Shawna McClurg will be leading the Bulldogs in the Reining event for her senior year. Sammie Jo Stone will be representing the Horsemanship team for her senior year. Holly Elsbernd will be leading the team in Equitation over Fences her senior season as a bulldog.
'Dogs See New Faces The Fresno State equestrian team welcomed 11 new Bulldogs to the Student Horse Center for the 2011-12 season. In the newest group of 'Dogs there are three hunt seat riders and eight western riders. The new recruiting class replaced eight seniors that the 'Dogs said farewell to in May. Scrivani and Reeves are confident in the talent and experience that the new 'Dogs will bring to the arena and contribute to the team.
Red v. Blue Scrimmage The scrimmage was a great start to the 2011-12 season and the team members had some very impressive rides. At the conclusion of the event the Blue team defeated the red team 12-9. In Equitation on the Flat Kimberly Hewson Budnik rode for an event-high 76, earning a point for the Blue team along with Roworth, Wilson, and Beach. Equitation over Fences, Hewson Budnik recorded the event-high again. The Horsemanship event recorded some excellent scores where Lauren Crivelli received MVP honors with a high score of 74.5 and Reining wrapped up the scrimmage with Sydney Colleti earning MVP honors.
A Look Back The Bulldogs entered the National Championships ranked seventh in the Hunt Seat competition and 11th in the Western competition. The Hunt Seat ladies competed against No. 10 UTM in the first round and fell 5-3. The Western team took on No. 6 TCU and fell 6-1. The competition was held in Waco, Texas and hosts the top 12 teams in the nation for a national championship.
