BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomore Marianne Jodoin led the No. 66 Fresno State women's tennis team in singles play on Friday during the first day of the California Winter Invite at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
Jodoin bested 82nd-ranked Catherine Isip of No. 41 Saint Mary's in singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. She was one of four Bulldogs to earn singles victories against Saint Mary's in the round-robin tournament, where Fresno State played the Gaels in singles and Cal in doubles.
"I am really happy to be back on the court again," Jodoin said. "I'm excited for the season and that we are all back from vacation. It was a good first day."
Head coach Simon Thibodeau was also happy to see his team get back on the court after the break.
"I saw some good things today and things we can improve upon in the next few days," Thibodeau said.
The Bulldogs faced No. 8 California for the first round of doubles play, but were unable to come away with a victory.
"The goal of this tournament is to tune-up after the break, find our lineup for the next matches and get ready for the season," Thibodeau said. "I think we did that today and we will continue to improve throughout this tournament."
The Cal Winter Invite continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. when the 'Dogs take on California in singles and Saint Mary's in doubles at 12:15 p.m.
