Bulldogs Finish Up at California Winter Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team wrapped up play Sunday at the California Winter Invite. Marianne Jodoin and Olga Kirpicheva led the Bulldogs in both singles and doubles play.
Jodoin and Kirpicheva pulled out wins against Cal Poly in singles play. Jodoin bested the Mustangs' Alexa Lee, 6-3, 6-2, and Kirpicheva defeated Gabrielle Gatewood, 6-3, 6-4.
The duo also shined on the court in doubles when they teamed up to beat Saint Mary's Catherine Isip and Liz Searl, 8-6. It was the only win for the 'Dogs in doubles.
Head coach Simon Thibodeau felt overall the team competed well for the preseason competition and used the tournament to work out some kinks before the regular season starts on Friday, Jan. 27 against Florida International in Athens, Ga.
"This was a productive tournament for us," Thibodeau said. "We will have a good week of practice at home to get ready for our first match. The team is really looking forward to starting the regular season."
