DENVER, Colo. - Fresno State's Marianne Jodoin was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for Jan. 8-15.
The sophomore from Varennes, Canada (Ecole Georges High School), opened the spring season with a pair of singles victories and one doubles win at the California Winter Invitational, where the Bulldogs played in a round-robin tournament against three ranked teams - No. 8 Cal, No. 41 St. Mary's and No. 44 Cal Poly.
Jodoin opened the weekend with a three-set victory over 82nd-ranked Catherine Isip of St. Mary's. After dropping a straight-set singles match against No. 5 Jana Juricova of Cal, on Saturday, Jodoin came back to defeat Cal Poly's Alexa Lee, 6-3, 6-3, on Sunday.
This is the fourth time she has been honored as WAC Player of the Week. Jodoin was also named WAC Player of the Month last October and is currently ranked No. 49 in the nation.
