DENVER, Colo. - Fresno State senior Michelle Moses has been named the Verizon WAC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This is the fourth time in Moses' career that she has received the award and she has also been named the WAC Hitter of the Week five times. This is the second-straight week that a Bulldog has been named the pitcher of the week, as fellow senior Mackenzie Oakes was honored on Feb. 20.
Moses threw her second career no-hitter and the 68th in program history while leading Fresno State to a 7-0 victory over Iowa State last Thursday. She recorded 17 strikeouts in the win vs. the Cyclones, which is one off the school record that she set herself in 2010. The win over Iowa State was also her third consecutive shutout victory.
After that opening game of the Cathedral City Classic, Moses went on to post big numbers the rest of the weekend.
She led Fresno State to a 6-3 win over No. 7 UCLA by throwing a complete game and striking out eight Bruins. With a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Moses struck out the side to preserve the win that snapped a 14-game losing streak to UCLA.
In all, Moses' 34 strikeouts in four starts last weekend were the most by any pitcher from the 36 teams competing in the Cathedral City Classic.
For the season, Moses has a 5-4 record and a 1.26 ERA. Her 75 strikeouts in 61.0 innings pitched lead the WAC and opposing batters are hitting .159 against her.
