FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State Athletics are known for reaching out and volunteering in the Central Valley community and pride themselves in honoring the "Green V". The Fresno State equestrian team did a great community service event at the Ronald McDonald House of the Central Valley by cooking a pasta dinner for the families staying at the house on Tuesday evening.
The Ronald McDonald House is located in Madera, Calif. right next to the Central Valley Children's Hospital. The house serves as a "home away from home" for families of children who are seriously ill or injured. The Ronald McDonald House's mission is to provide comfort and safe places to cope with the emotions, financial burdens and hardships those families go through when their children are sick. It provides lodging for as long as they families need, all for free, so they can focus their energies on healing their child.
The equestrian team helped out at the Ronald McDonald by making a pasta dinner for the families that were staying there. They were able to get in the kitchen, cook the meal and share their time with families. Even a nice dinner will lift weight off some of these families' shoulders, knowing they don't even have to worry about making dinner and focus on their children.
"It is great to work together as a team in an effort to give to others not in our traditional setting of a horse arena," said head English coach Julia Scrivani.
The community can come out and see the equestrian team in their final home event of the season on Saturday, March 3 at 9 a.m. They are having a team scrimmage and will be competing against each other, starting with Equitation over Fences at 9, followed by Equitation on the Flat and Horsemanship and will conclude with Reining.
