FRESNO, Calif. --- It has all come down to the final weekend of the regular season.
It's time to clear your calendars, find your favorite Bulldog gear and enjoy the weekend at Beiden Field watching the surging Fresno State baseball team put it all on the line to keep its season going.
Fresno State (23-24, 6-9 WAC) will battle Louisiana Tech (23-24, 6-9 WAC)) in a three-game series starting Friday night at 6 p.m. PT, continuing Saturday evening at 6 p.m. PT and wrapping up Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT. Both teams can still finish conference play as high as fourth place or as low as last place.
Fresno State can qualify for next week's conference tournament in Mesa, Ariz. and remain in contention for advancing to its sixth NCAA Tournament in the past seven years in the following scenarios:
1) Fresno State beats Louisiana Tech two or three times this weekend
2) Fresno State beats Louisiana Tech once; AND San Jose State wins one or fewer out of three games against New Mexico State this week
3) San Jose State loses three games to New Mexico State this week
In the past nine games, Fresno State has outscored its opponents 77-39 and hit .340 as a team.
Bulldog Bones
Last weekend, Fresno State won its second straight Western Athletic Conference series in winning two of three games at New Mexico State and outscored the Aggies 27-11 during the three game set.
The Bulldogs also outhit the Aggies 38-26, had a 25-9 edge in RBI and 55-40 advantage in total bases
Fresno State did not commit an error in all 30 innings played last week to extend its errorless-inning streak to 38
The Fresno State pitching staff struck out 31 Aggie batters while the Bulldog hitters only struck out 20 times
The Fresno State pitching staff held the Aggies to just a .234 batting average at Presley Askew Field
Pitchers Justin Haley, Tyler Linehan and Thomas Harlan have combined for 16 of the Bulldogs' 23 victories
In the past nine games, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 77-39 and hit .340 as a team
Sophomore Jake Alvarez currently owns a nine-game hitting streak and has scored at least once in eight of the last nine games
Senior Patrick Hutcheson currently owns a seven-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in each of the last 11 games
Sophomore Aaron Judge has reached base safely in the last 15 games
