Bulldogs Hit the Diamond

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team begins preparation for a new season in a new conference under new head coach Trisha Ford. Ford and the Bulldogs kicked off the 2013 season with the first day of practice on Sunday.
The `Dogs open the season on Feb. 8 hosting the first of two non-conference tournaments and start their first season in the Mountain West Conference in late March with a series against Nevada.
"We are excited to be back on the diamond and are eager to get the 2013 season started," said Ford. "We have a lot of talent back with us this season and mixed with the newcomers it should be a lot of fun to watch."
The Bulldogs held team meetings over the weekend and began practicing on the field on Sunday. The `Dogs will practice every day leading up to the start of the season, which is less than a month away.
Returning to the Diamond for the Bulldogs in 2013 are the top three offensive threats from a year ago, Brooke Ortiz, Stesha Brazil and Brenna Moss. Also back in 2013 is junior Vonnie Martin earned preseason honors from College Sports Madness and was named all-conference in 2012.
Stepping into the circle for the first time in a `Dogs uniform are Jillian Compton and Hannah Harris. Both freshmen, were highly decorated student-athletes in high school and earned many awards for their work in the circle.
Fresno State returns a total of 13 from 2012 and added eight new student-athletes to the roster, which included two transfers and six freshmen.
