Five Bulldogs Honored as NFCA Scholar-Athletes

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team reaffirmed its commitment to academic success with five selections in the recent annual NFCA Scholar-Athlete announcement.
Based on their +3.50 grade point averages during the 2013-14 academic year, sophomore catcher Niki Kaleialii joined four `Dogs that were also starters on the field - senior infielder Kelly Megee and center fielder Brenna Moss, and then-senior infielders Stesha Brazil and Brooke Ortiz.
"This is a great honor for our program and more importantly the players," Fresno State softball head coach Trisha Ford said. "It exemplifies what a true student-athlete experience is like here at Fresno State. Our players work extremely hard both on the field and in the classroom, and this is a result of their commitment. We take great pride in our academic experience and hope to continue to get better both in the classroom and on the field."
Ortiz and Megee were similarly honored among six Bulldogs in 2013, and Ortiz received her first accolade in 2011.
The `Dogs also featured a program-best six honorees under Ford in 2013, and also twice before in 2001 and '02.

Earlier this spring, Brazil and Megee and Ortiz were tabbed MW Scholar-Athletes and were joined on the MW All-Academic list with then-senior outfielder Kapri Angotti, junior pitcher Hannah Harris and Moss.
Last May, Harris also received Capital One Academic All-District laurels and joined Ortiz among 34 Bulldog honorees since 1985.
On the field this week, the `Dogs return to practice in preparation of several upcoming home exhibitions in late October and November (and a full remaining fall schedule follows):
Fri., Oct. 24 - Reedley, Fresno, 6 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 25 - Sacramento City College, Fresno, 5 p.m.
Wed., Oct. 29 - Fresno City, Fresno 6 p.m.
Fri., Nov. 7 - CSU Stanislaus, Fresno, 6 p.m.
Sun., Nov. 9 - San Francisco State, Fresno, 11 a.m.
The Bulldogs' home fall contests will feature free admission, and fans attending weekday fall contests at Margie Wright Diamond will need to purchase parking passes in the nearby lot P20 (while there are no parking restrictions for weekend games).
