FRESNO, Calif.--The Fresno State equestrian team moved up in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association rankings to No. 8, and two Bulldogs were named NCEA Riders of the Month for September. Sophomore Taylor Brown earned the title for reining, and freshman Rachel Williams earned the title for horsemanship.
Brown finished undefeated in September's Willis Invitation in Waco, Texas against Baylor, Southern Methodist University and University of Tennessee-Martin. She averaged a score of 68.7 and defeated her opponents by an average of 1.8 points. She received two Most Outstanding Player awards. She was also crowned last week's Fresno State Sysco Student-Athlete of the Week.
"We could not be more proud of Taylor's success," interim head coach Eric Hubbard said. "We are looking forward to her leadership and consistency in the reining this year."
Williams also rode undefeated in the Willis Invitational, and earned her first two collegiate points against Baylor and SMU. Her average score was a 68.75.
"I am happy for Rachel, as she has stepped up to the plate and filled big shoes left by those that graduated last year," Hubbard said. "She has ridden with focus and determination in practice, which has shown in the competition arena."
In addition, the Bulldogs climbed one spot to No. 8 since they entered the NCEA rankings last Tuesday.
Fresno State hits the road to Las Cruces, N.M. Friday and Saturday to compete against New Mexico State and rematch UTM.
You can catch the `Dogs on their home dirt when they take on University of South Carolina on Nov. 7.
