FRESNO, Calif.- For the second consecutive week, Fresno State senior Tyeler Davison earned honorable mention Performer of the Week accolades from the College Football Performance Awards, the organization announced Monday. Davison received honors for most outstanding play by a defensive lineman in the Bulldogs' home victory over Hawai'i on Nov.29, and the same a week prior versus Nevada on Nov. 22 by the CFPA.
Davison, a Scottsdale, Ariz. native, was one of five defensive linemen from across the Football Bowl Subdivision to be honored by the organization. In Davison's final game at Bulldog Stadium, the senior nose guard recorded a career-high three sacks, his first multi-sack game of his career. The three sacks were the most by a Bulldog in over four years (Chris Carter, Oct. 26, 2010) and Davison is the fifth player in the Mountain West to record three or more sacks in a single game this season. Davison also forced a fumble for the second straight game, and finished the game with five tackles.
On Nov. 22, Davison led Fresno State in tackles with seven against the Wolf Pack, six solo, and recorded 1.5 tackles for loss. It was the second time during the 2014 season that Davison led the team in tackles. Additionally, he forced and recovered a fumble for the 'Dogs in the second quarter at Nevada - the first time a Bulldog has forced and recovered a fumble on the same play since Oct. 26, 2013.
Davison ranks tied for fifth among all players in the Mountain West with seven sacks. He ranks No. 4 in the conference for tackles made by a defensive lineman (56), and ranks tied for No. 1 in the league in MW games only for tackles made a d-lineman (47).
With its 28-21 victory against Hawai'i, Fresno State secured a spot in the Sports Authority Mountain West Championship Game as the West Division Champion. The Bulldogs will face the Mountain Division Champion, Boise State, on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. PT. The game will be aired nationally on CBS.
