Sheedy Named Mountain West Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State senior forward Alex Sheedy was named Mountain West Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced Monday morning.
After being named MW Player of the Week on Dec. 15 after passing the 1,000-point mark for her career, the native of Moe, Australia, earned the honor again after posting career-high games of 25 points twice within three days as she led the Bulldogs past Bethesda at home and on the road at Oregon. Sheedy shot 57.6 percent from the field (19-of-33) in the two contests, including hitting 9-of-14 in a 68-59 win at Oregon.
The victory in Eugene, Ore., was Fresno State's first over a Pac-12 opponent on the road since Dec. 18, 2006. Sheedy poured in 14 points in the opening half as the Bulldogs went into halftime with a 10-point lead. Against Bethesda, she scored 19 of her 25 points in the second half as the `Dogs recorded their second win this season when trailing at the half.
On the week, Sheedy also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and three steals per games.
Sheedy and the Bulldogs will take the next week and a half off before opening conference play on Dec. 31 as they host New Mexico at 2 p.m., PT. Prior to the game, Fresno State will honor its 2014 Mountain West Tournament Championship with a ring ceremony and banner unveiling.
