Utah won the toss, deferred to the second half. Fresno State will receive and defend the north goal.
1st Quarter
After only allowing one sack in the season opener and just 11 sacks in 13 games last year, Fresno State gave up sacks on back-to-back plays on its second drive of the game.
Tyeler Davison recorded Fresno State's first sack of the season, which came on an intentional grounding play at 6:35.
Derron Smith had a two-yard tackle for a loss at 3:48, his first behind the line of scrimmage this year.
Fresno State did not have a first down in the first quarter while Utah had 10 first downs. The Utes averaged 6.8 yards on first down plays.
2nd Quarter
Brandon Connette hit Josh Harper for nine-yards on a third-and-8 in the first minute of the quarter for Fresno State's first first-down of the game.
With Connette running the offense on his first drive, the Bulldogs picked up four first-downs. That drive stalled however at the Utah 30-yard line when the `Dogs could not convert a fourth-and-4.
Malcolm Washington recorded a four-yard tackle for a loss at 10:15, the first tackle for a loss in his career. That gave Utah its first three-and-out of the game.
Brandon Connette hit Malique Micenheimer on a 2-yard touchdown pass at 6:19. It was Fresno State's first touchdown pass of the season and first points in the game.
The scoring play was also Micenheimer's first career TD reception and Connette's first touchdown pass as a Bulldog.
3rd Quarter
Brandon Connette hit Aaron Peck on a 53-yard completion at 3:03. Play was originally ruled a touchdown, but after review Peck was determined to be down at the half-yard line. Two plays later, Connette walked in for his first rushing touchdown as a Bulldog. He ran for a Duke school record 31 touchdowns at Duke before transferring over to Fresno State.
