FRESNO, Calif.--- The Fresno State lacrosse team had a strong preseason 20-3 win over Occidental in an exhibition game on Saturday night in Bulldog Stadium. Nine different 'Dogs scored in the victory over the Tigers, four of which had hat tricks.
"Our preseason is the hardest it has ever been, when you get a win like this I think it shows that all the hard work is paying off, " said head coach Jessica Giglio.
Senior Captain Marcy Levatino led the 'Dogs with a hat trick off of four goals and two assists. Following Levatino's lead, Anjelica Fuccillo, Caroline Dineen-Carlson and freshman Nicole Ortlieb all had three goals each.
Chelsea Hall and Lindsay Hobson added two goals for Fresno State while sophomores Brooke Filgo and Kyleigh Westgarth had one a piece.
"As a team we shined, the scoring was spread out across the board which shows you how versatile we are this year," added Giglio. "Our defense did a great job only holding them to three goals, they are a good team."
Hobson also recorded a team-high five ground balls and three draw controls for the 'Dogs and two caused turnovers.
Sophia Aragon added two caused turnovers to help total for nine on the night for the Bulldogs.
"It was great getting a chance to have a real game-like experience to build our confidence," said Giglio. "I'm really proud of them, I think we have come a really long way this spring alone and as a team we came together and it showed.
The Bulldogs are set to open the 2015 season with a conference game at Stanford on Feb. 18.
