Lacrosse Falls to No. 19 Stanford in Season Opener

STANFORD, Calif.-- The Fresno State lacrosse team opened its 2015 season with a 22-7 loss to conference opponent No. 19 Stanford on Wednesday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
Sophomore Caroline Dineen-Carlson led the Bulldogs with a team-high three goals against the Cardinal. In her first career hat trick, Dineen-Carlson also added two groundballs and a sole draw control for the 'Dogs.
"Caroline (Dineen-Carlson) had some strong takes on offense and I look forward to seeing more production from her," said Fresno State head coach Jessica Giglio.
Three other Bulldogs joined the scoring effort against Stanford. In her college debut, freshman Nicole Ortlieb posted two goals off of three shots for Fresno State. Marcy Levatino and Chelsea Hall also added one goal apiece for the 'Dogs.
Continuing her dominance on the draw from 2014, sophomore Kyleigh Westgarth tallied a game-high five draw controls as the Bulldogs stayed competitive on the circle going 13-15 against the Cardinal.
"We are going to fine tune and clean up our turnovers and look forward to our next conference game at USC," added Giglio.
Fresno State continues its season opening four-game road trip with a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matchup at USC next Tuesday, Feb. 24 at McAlister Field in Los Angeles, Calif. The 'Dogs then travel east to face Gardner-Webb on Feb. 27 and Furman on March 1.
The Fresno State home opener at the new Soccer/Lacrosse field is March 4, the Bulldogs will host Campbell at 7 p.m. PT.
