Bulldog Equestrian Tops Delaware State, 9-7

HARRINGTON, Del. - The Bulldog equestrian team defeated Delaware State, 9-7 on Saturday at the Delaware State Fairgrounds indoor arena. Fresno State owns a 1-1 overall record looking forward to the Willis Invitational, Oct. 9-10 in Waco, Texas.
Fresno State was coming off a 12-8 loss to No. 1 Georgia on Friday, and capped opening day tied 4-4 at the conclusion of the Hunt Seat competition against the Hornets.
On Friday, the two teams began with Equitation Over Fences where Fresno State fell 3-1 before gaining momentum heading into the flat. The `Dogs battled back to tie the score 4-4 after edging the Hornets 3-1 in Equitation on the Flat.
Freshman Alexandra Dirickson led the Hunt Seat team, earning a near perfect score of 91 in Equitation on the Flat. Sophomore transfer Alex Peltier scored the lone point for the `Dogs in Equitation Over Fences, defeating her opponent 73 to 71.
The `Dogs opened Saturday with a 3-1 victory in Horsemanship over Delaware State, gaining a 7-5 advantage heading into the final event of the day. In Reining, the Bulldogs and Hornets tied 2-2 while Taylor Brown and Alysa Frias both earned a point.
Fresno State accounted for three of the four points in Horsemanship, as Taylor Dixon (72), Rachel Williams (76) and Brown (74.5) led the `Dogs to a 3-1 victory.
Up next, Fresno State will make its way to Waco, Texas for the annual Willis Invitational (Oct. 9-10), where they are slated to face UT-Martin and No. 9 New Mexico State. The Bulldogs will return home on Oct. 23 to host a three-team tournament featuring No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 9 New Mexico State at the Student Horse Center.
