FRESNO, Calif. - As announced by the conference on Tuesday, three Fresno State football players have been named to its end of season All-Mountain West teams. All seniors, offensive lineman Alex Fifita and linebacker Ejiro Ederaine took home second-team all-conference honors, while defensive end Claudell Louis was named an honorable mention selection.
The 2015 All-Mountain West teams were voted upon by the 12 head coaches in the conference and media members covering the league institutions.
Fifita, a 2015 All-MW preseason selection, received an all-conference nod for the second-straight season, albeit in 2014 he was honorable mention honoree. The senior offensive lineman helped lead a rushing attack that gained 1,642 yards on the ground, 920 of which came from starting running back Marteze Waller. The front-five was flagged for just 15 of the Bulldogs 59 penalties on the year, a squad that ranked No. 18 in the country for fewest penalties. Fifita alone, was not called for a holding penalty all season and was flagged for a false start twice. The Hayward, Calif., native wrapped up his career starting in 26 consecutive games and 36 overall.
Fresno State's season leader in sacks (9.0), tackles for a loss (16.5) and tackles (99), Ederaine, becomes a two-time second-team All-MW selection – picking up the first his sophomore season. The native of Corona, Calif. concluded his Fresno State career with the second-most TFLs in Mountain West history at 45.5.
Ederiane, tied for the Mountain West lead with 9.0 sacks on the 2015 season and ranks No. 2 in the conference with his 16.5 tackles for a loss – numbers that ranked for FBS ties for No. 23 in TFLs and No. 18 in sacks. Ederaine has a tackle for a loss in 11-of-12 games this year, making him one of just two players in the MW to record a tackle for a loss in every game but one played in on the season.
The senior linebacker's team-lead 99 tackles, which is the fourth-most total tackles of any defender in the conference, was one tackle shy of becoming the first Bulldog to reach triple-digit tackles since 2009. He set a career-high with 13 stops against No. 21 Utah on Sept. 19, which was one of four games where he posted 10 or more tackles. Ederaine also chipped in two interceptions, two quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and one forced fumble.
Recognized for the first time by the conference, the Bulldogs junior college transfer defensive end Louis earned honorable mention accolades for his senior campaign. Louis, who hails from Boynton Beach, Fla., owned the eighth-most sacks (5.0) by a defensive linemen in the Mountain West in 2015. His 47 tackles on the season also tied for the eighth-most among all defensive linemen in the MW. In eight conference games, Louis averaged 5.0 tackles per game, which included a career-high seven tackles in the back-to-back games against Air Force and Nevada. He also had one pass breakup (at No. 14 Ole Miss) and a fumble recovery (vs. No. 21 Utah).
