Faulk, Faz Davalos Power `Dogs Past CSUS, 72-49

FRESNO, Calif. - Behind the duo of Bego Faz Davalos and Moriah Faulk, Fresno State topped Cal State Stanislaus 72-49 on Tuesday evening at the Save Mart Center by closing the game with a 32-9 run over the final 14-plus minutes.
The pair combined for 24 points apiece as Faz Davalos recorded her first career triple-double of the shooting a career-best 11-of-20 shooting from the field, grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds, and posting a career-best 10 blocks. Faulk notched a season-high 24 points off the bench going 9-of-14 from the field, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a season-high five assists.
"Obviously Moriah and Bego did a great job tonight," said head coach Jaime White. "The fourth quarter was really good. I think we made a couple of runs there and we got a lot of players a lot of touches. We really feel like we need to have some of our younger players playing and getting some minutes as we go into conference and I am pleased by tonight."
"It wasn't just me, it was my team," said Faz Davalos on the Bulldogs' performance. "My team gave me great passes. Tonight was a wake-up call and Coach White told us that we need to finish."
Cal State Stanislaus was led in scoring by Cassidy Sanders-Curry with 14 points as she sank 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Camille Roberts and Taylor Faucett chipped in eight points apiece.
The Bulldogs (4-5) shot 40.9 percent (27-66) from the field while holding the Warriors to 27 percent (17-of-63) from the field, a season-low for a Bulldog opponent. The 'Dogs grabbed a season-high 52 rebounds compared to the Warriors' 35 boards. The Bulldogs dished out a season-high 22 assists by eight different players. The 'Dogs outscored the Warriors 40-20 in the paint, 22-4 in the second chance points and 35-19 in bench points.
The 'Dogs fell behind early 9-4 in the first quarter before storming back with a quick 13-4 run to take a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. With a pair of free throws from Faulk ending the quarter, the 'Dogs continued to build their lead scoring the first eight points of the second quarter, including six straight points from Faulk, to take a 25-13 lead.
After a pair of free throws from Brittany Aikens kept the 'Dogs ahead 29-18 with 5:17 to play in the first half, the Warriors ended the half on a 10-4 run as the home team took a narrow 33-28 lead into halftime. Faulk provided the scoring punch the 'Dogs were looking for in the opening half, pouring in 15 points in just 11 minutes coming off the bench.
The Warriors continued to fight their way back tying the game at 40-40 five minutes into the third quarter before a quick 6-0 run by the 'Dogs, getting three layups from Faz Davalos to put the Bulldogs in front for good keeping their six-point lead heading the fourth quarter. It was all Bulldogs from there as the 'Dogs exploded for 24 points in the final frame, limiting the Warriors to seven points as the 'Dogs secured a 72-49 victory.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday hosting San Diego at the Save Mart Center at 2 p.m., in a doubleheader with the men as they face Pacific 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game. The game will be a Red Out as both teams will wear their red uniforms.
