Bulldogs Top Pacific 5-2

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis won its fifth dual match in a row to improve to 5-2 on the year after defeating Pacific, 5-2, on Friday at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
"It was a good win today as Pacific fought really well all day and made us earn this win. I'm proud of the team earning their fifth straight victory and we're looking forward to trying to get our sixth tomorrow," head coach Ryan Stotland said.
The Bulldogs started off the day by claiming the doubles point with wins in the top two flights as Anneka and Sophie Watts earned an 8-3 win at No. 2, and Maiar and Rana Sherif Ahmed won 8-4 at No. 1.
Pacific tied the dual match with a win in the fifth flight as Gergana Boncheva defeated Sofy Malysheva, 6-3, 6-4.
Fresno State responded though, claiming four matches in a row. Senior Anne Susdorf started the rally with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 over Antonella Santeusanio. No. 43 Sophie Watts then picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 against Iveta Masarova. Maiar Sherif Ahmed clichéd the dual match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hana Ritterova in her first singles match playing in the No. 1 spot.
With the win wrapped up, Rana Sherif Ahmed increased her season win total to seven, tying her sister Maiar, and Sophie Watts. The three each have identical 7-2 overall records in singles play in 2015.
Fresno State will return to the courts Saturday as the team travels to Santa Clara for a 2 p.m., PT, dual match. The women will play after the Bulldog men face the Broncos.
