'Dogs Shut Out SDSU and University of Minnesota, Crookston

FRESNO, Calif.--The No. 7 Fresno State equestrian team shut out South Dakota State University and University of Minnesota, Crookston at a tournament this weekend in Brookings, S.D.
On Friday, the `Dogs defeated Minnesota, Crookston, 11-4.
In the hunt seat, the teams tied, 4-4. On the flat, senior Randi Pomrehn earned the first point for the Bulldogs, defeating her opponent 80-60. Freshman Kylina Chalack earned the next point with her match-high score of 87 over her opponent's 75. This earned Chalack the Most Outstanding Player award. Over fences, Pomrehn earned another point, defeating her opponent, 85-82. She earned the Most Outstanding Player award for this ride. Freshman Sierra Swaffar earned the last point in the hunt seat with a score double that of her opponent's, 80-40.
Fresno State shut out Minnesota, Crookston in the western category, 7-0. In horsemanship, junior Sydney Elliot defeated her opponent, 67.5-65.5. Sophomore Maddy Robinson defeated her opponent, 71-60. Freshman Taylor Dixon defeated her opponent, 67.5-60.5. Freshman Rachel Williams earned Most Outstanding Player for her score of 72 over her opponent's 69. In reining, senior Ciara Kozlowski defeated her opponent, 66.5-0. Senior Kirsten McKillop defeated her opponent, 67-63. Freshman Hailey Robison defeated her opponent, 69.5-68. This ride earned Robison her first career Most Outstanding Player award. Freshman Alysa Frias tied with her opponent, 68-all.
On Saturday, Fresno State defeated South Dakota State University, 10-6.
The Jackrabbits had the upper hand in the hunt seat. On the flat, sophomore Genna Fogelberg earned a point for the `Dogs, 79-65. Swaffar defeated her opponent, 80-76. Over fences, Chalack earned the only point for Fresno State, defeating her opponent, 83-82.
Fresno State held South Dakota State University to just one point in the western category. In horsemanship, the `Dogs defeated the Jackrabbits, 4-0. Dixon defeated her opponent, 71-69.5. McKillop defeated her opponent, 73-69. Williams defeated her opponent, 71.5-67. Sophomore Taylor Brown earned the Most Outstanding Player award for her ride, defeating her opponent, 73.5-73. In reining, senior Brigid O'Leary defeated her opponent, 67.5-63. McKillop earned another point with her score of 68 over her opponent's 61. Brown defeated her opponent, 69.5-67. She earned her second Most Outstanding Player award of this match for this ride.
Now, Fresno State is 6-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The `Dogs return to the Student Horse Center on March 6-7 for their spring home opener to take on Texas Christian University and University of Georgia.
