FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis has moved up to No. 42 in the latest ITA rankings, making a 20-spot jump this week. The ranking is the highest that the team has been ranked during third-year head coach Ryan Stotland's tenure.
"The ranking is a great thing to see as we are happy to be No. 42, but we're not satisfied as we have bigger goals and know we just need to stay hungry and keep taking it one match at a time," Stotland said.
Since dropping their first two dual matches of the season, the Bulldogs have won 10 of their last 11 matches including three wins over then-ranked opponents in Kansas State (66), Colorado (44) and UC Santa Barbara (73). In those matches, the `Dogs won comfortably defeating the Wildcats 5-2, Buffaloes 4-1 and Gauchos 6-1.
Individually, both freshman Maiar Sherif Ahmed and junior Sophie Watts are on 11-match win streaks in singles play, while senior Anne Susdorf has not lost this season, going 7-0.
Fresno State will host its next ranked opponent on March 13 when the team steps back into conference play against No. 60 San Jose State.
