`Dogs Defeated By Ducks, 14-7

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State lacrosse team fell 14-7 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation league game to Oregon on Monday at the Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Bulldogs fall to 2-8 on the year and 0-4 in MPSF play, closing out their six-game home stand. Fresno State travels to Saint Mary's on Thursday before returning home for two more home games in the first two weeks of April to complete a stretch of eight of nine games being played at home.
Oregon improves to 7-2 overall on the year and 2-1 in MPSF action.
"I think we talked as a team at halftime about the things we were not doing well and we turned it up," head coach Jessica Giglio said after the Bulldogs scored five of their seven goals in the second half. "We talked more as a unit in the second half."
Fresno State was led by freshman attacker Nicole Ortlieb who had a season-high four goals on five shots. She tallied five points in the game, assisting on Brooke Filgo's goal for the `Dogs in the third minute of the second half.
"Nikki had a fantastic game and I thought she really led the attack for us with her cuts and off-ball movement," Gilgio said.
Bulldog goalkeeper Meganne Weissenfels recorded 12 saves on the afternoon.
The Ducks outshot Fresno State 38-10 on the afternoon and had eight different players score a goal, including five with two or more. Olivia Pyne led the Ducks with three goals while Cambi Cukar had five total points with one goal and four assists.
Oregon and Fresno State both scored in the first three minutes of the game before Oregon pulled out to a 7-1 lead with six unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. Ortlieb added in one goal for the `Dogs at the 4:19 mark of the first half to make it a 7-2 game at halftime.
The Ducks would pull out to a 14-4 lead by with 8:05 left in the game before the Bulldogs closed it out strong with three goals in the final five minutes.
The first of those final three goals was from sophomore Alex White on a nice assist after a long charge up the field from Marcy Levatino.
Ortlieb then scored at 1:31 in the second half on an assist from Abigail Bergevin and Bergevin ended the scoring with a goal on a free position shot with 16 seconds left on the clock.
