ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sparked by seven runs in the fourth, New Mexico defeated Fresno State 12-7 on Friday night at Lobo Field, halting the Bulldogs five-game win streak. The loss drops Fresno State's Mountain West record to 6-4, an identical mark with New Mexico entering Saturday's game scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
The Lobos sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring seven times on five hits and an error. The one to five hitters pushed the rally along with five consecutive hits. Those same five hitters accounted for all 12 New Mexico hits and 11 RBIs on Friday.
William Munro calmed the game from the bullpen. The Fresno State senior got the final out of the fourth and went on to finish the game for the 'Dogs. He surrendered two hits over 4 1/3 innings, and allowed two runs on the same two hits in the fifth. From the sixth inning forward, the Lobos were in scoring position once, following back-to-back walks with two outs in the eighth.
Fresno State's most productive inning was in the fourth. The 'Dogs rallied for three consecutive two-out singles to spark a four-run inning. Argomaniz hit the first RBI single, immediately following New Mexico electing to intentionally walk Taylor Ward to load the bases, it scored two runs to give the `Dogs a 2-1 lead. Aaron Arruda and Joe Prior followed suit with back-to-back RBI singles to put the Bulldogs on top 4-1.
Ryan Dobson led Fresno State from the plate on a career night, recording a career-high three hits (3-for-4). He also scored two runs.
The Bulldogs matched the Lobos 12 hits on Friday, but the Lobos posted four more multi-base hits (five-to-one).
New Mexico starter Toller Boardman (5-1) earned the win, while freshman Bulldog reliever Rickey Ramirez (0-1) was charged with the loss.
