Bulldogs and Aztecs Split Series on Day Two

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- On the second day of action in San Diego, Calif., the Fresno State softball team fell 3-0 to Mountain West leading San Diego State, leaving both the Bulldogs and Aztecs 1-1 in the three-game conference series.
After a scoreless first inning for Fresno State, the Aztecs were first on the board after a two-out double scored their first run of the series in the bottom of the first.
Bulldog first baseman Chase LeeHong defensively gained some momentum for the `Dogs recording all three outs in the bottom of the second inning including an unassisted double play.
Whitney Smith had Fresno State's lone hit of the game through four innings with a two-out single to the right side in the top of the third. Bria Kennedy recorded the `Dogs second hit with a double to left center in the top of the fifth, giving the left fielder four doubles on the season.
In what was a one-run game through three innings of play, San Diego State struck again in the fourth gaining one run off a bases loaded situation, leaving the Bulldogs trailing 2-0 after five complete innings.
Smith had her second multi hit game of the season with her second single coming as the `Dogs leadoff batter in the sixth inning.
Offensively, Hannah Harris drew the start in the circle on Friday evening and went the distance of five innings before junior lefty Kiley Shae Aldridge made her first appearance in conference play in the sixth inning with the `Dogs trailing by three.
Previous Action
The Fresno State softball team took the first game of the three-day series with a 5-0 victory over San Diego State on Thursday to give the Aztecs their first Mountain West loss of the season after a 6-0 conference start.
Looking Ahead
After two days of action, the Bulldogs and Aztecs will face off one last time on Saturday, April 4 to compete for the series and cap the third week of conference play at the SDSU Softball Field.
