Compton Named MW Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Bulldog pitcher Jill Compton was recognized for third time this season, earning the title of Mountain West Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon after helping the Fresno State softball team to a conference series win over MW leader San Diego State.
Earning the start in the circle for two of the `Dogs three-games, Compton had a weekend record of 2-0 and went the distance of 14 innings moving her to an overall record of 15-9 (4-2 MW). In her two showings against San Diego State, Compton had six strikeouts and allowed the Aztecs no earned runs moving her to a team-best earned run average of 2.21 on the season.
Compton represents Fresno State on a national level logging a No. 23 ranking with five shutouts and is tied at No. 29 with 15 victories according to the latest NCAA Women's Softball Rankings.. The junior pitcher has tossed 14 complete games, making 30 appearances and has thrown a total of 155 innings for the Bulldogs this year.
As Fresno State's starting pitcher, Compton guides the Bulldog pitching staff with 28 game starts, has tossed 14 complete games in 30 appearances and has thrown a total of 155 innings for Fresno State this year.
Monday's honor marks the third conference accolade the Oceano, Calif., native has earned this season and sixth career Mountain West honor as a junior.
Bulldog softball returns to Margie Wright Diamond for a midweek conference double header tomorrow, April 7, against New Mexico at 4 and 6 p.m., followed by a single game matchup with the Lobos on Wednesday at 12 p.m.
